Gold Buckle Club

What is the Gold Buckle Club?

The Gold Buckle Club is an exclusive club consisting of members including businesses, community leaders, and dedicated rodeo fans that value community and the sport of rodeo. Every member generously donates to ensure that the Wind River PRCA Rodeo Roundup is able to bring you family entertainment and our favorite small town rodeo action every year. The funds from the Buckle Club go towards making improvements on the rodeo grounds, promoting the rodeo, advertisement, and helps fund our Gold Buckle Ball in conjunction with the Fremont County Fair Royalty Coronation every spring.

By becoming a member, you are not only supporting the Wind River Rodeo Roundup, but you are becoming an integral part of the 2012-2013 PRCA small rodeo of the year nominee, and the PRCA Mountain Circuit Best Small Rodeo 2012. With your help, we can be in the runnings for 2024!

We invite any and all of you to become a member! You do not have to come from a rodeo, farm, or ranch background to enjoy the sport of rodeo!

With your membership you will receive:

  • One custom made Wind River PRCA Rodeo Roundup commemorative, special addition, belt buckle (new design every year)

  • Four tickets to each night of the Wind River PRCA Rodeo Roundup (8 tickets total)

  • VIP Invitation to dine with the cowboys and cowgirls in the hospitality tent each night of the PRCA Rodeo for you and 3 special guests, along with an autograph session with the cowboys, cowgirls, and Miss Rodeo Wyoming

  • VIP behind the chutes rodeo tour with the PRCA rodeo announcer

As an additional benefit, first time members will also receive a special jacket that will identify you as a Gold Buckle Club member!

OUR STOCK CONTRACTOR

Our Stock Contractor

Hank and Lori Franzen, owners of Powder River Rodeo, grew up competing at rodeo events throughout the country and at the collegiate level while attending Casper College.  After college they became members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA), Hank as a contestant and Lori as a timer.

The couple always wanted to own and operate a stock contracting firm and in 1986 they started Powder River Rodeo Company along with a partner.  A year later, Hank and Lori bought out their partner and became the sole owners.

In 1988 they had 3 animals selected to the National Finals Rodeo.  Powder River Rodeo has had livestock at every National Finals Rodeo since.  The Franzens have established themselves as one of the most recognized and awarded firms within the PRCA.  Their commitment to excellence has been recognized by the industry as they are recipients of the prestigious PRCA Remuda Award (2019).

Hank and Lori Franzen Powder River Rodeo

Building on the strong foundation of award winning bucking horses, Hank and Lori wanted to take their firm to the next level by partnering with award winning bucking bull producers HD and Dillon Page - D&H Cattle Company of Ardmore, Oklahoma.  Their partnership, which began in 2005, has yielded them success and multiple awards.

The philosophy of the partnership is simple – have fun, be honorable, and provide committees and fans with a professional, exciting experience leaving them wanting more.

For the Franzens, this isn't just business, it's a family business.

They have built a strong foundation for the future based on trust, loyalty and hard work.  The Franzen and Page families are committed to providing the best stock and best experience for their committees, fans and partners.

After 40 years in the business, they have an established reputation and pattern of success. The numerous awards and accolades bestowed upon them by the industry speaks to the quality of their livestock, production and partnerships.

It is deeply important to them that they leave a legacy for their children and provide more opportunities for growth to contestants, committees, partners and fans within the sport of Professional Rodeo.

Our Story

In 2006 the Fair Board formed a rodeo committee to assist with the PRCA rodeo during the fair. In 2008 the Fair Board purchased a new Priefert arena system, with all new chutes, pens, and equipment. The rodeo committee helped build the new arena, working every evening for over a month, to get ready for the rodeo. The new arena was finished just days before the rodeo with the help of Bobby Lane, Randy George, John Campbell, Dennis George, Jon Soll, Jim McCray, and Dennis Mazet. Four of these members are still on the committee to this day. The 2008 rodeo was the first year of the Fremont County Tough Enough Cancer Fund chap auction that was held during the rodeo’s Tough Enough To Wear Pink night on the second night of the rodeo to raise money for the cancer relief fund. Ed McAuslin purchased a pair of custom chaps to be auctioned, and Bobby & Joy Lane purchased a pair of matching chinks to be auctioned. These two pair of chaps sold for $61,000.00 starting the fund.

In 2009 the committee renamed the rodeo to the Big Wind Roundup, and began a more leading role in the production of the rodeo, and special events during the rodeo. The committee with help from local oilfield companies built a large overnight pen for the rodeo stock behind the bucking chutes, and built a new unloading chute for the arena.

In 2011 the rodeo was renamed to the Wind River Rodeo Roundup.

2012 the rodeo won PRCA Mountain States Circuit Small Rodeo of the Year, and was voted top 5 PRCA Small Rodeo of the year out of over 300 PRCA small rodeos. The committee began the Gold Buckle Club to raise funds for the committee. Custom buckles were sold to community members, and the Gold Buckle Ball was started along with the Fremont County Fair Royalty Coronation.

2013 the rodeo was again voted top 5 PRCA Small Rodeo of the year. The committee started our Military Appreciation Night on the 1ST night of the rodeo to Honor Fremont County Veterans and Active Duty Service Members. We held an auction to raise funds for the local Veteran groups.

In 2020 our rodeo had to be canceled due to Covid and the severe budget cuts the Fair Board went through. The rodeo committee was informed that the Fair Board could no longer fund the rodeo, and the committee began discussions on how to fund and produce the rodeo without county funding. The committee was separated from the Fair Board, and will produce and fund the rodeo in 2021.

The last 16 years have seen changes and improvements to the PRCA rodeo, and the Fremont County Fair Grounds facility. To date the chap auction during the rodeo has raised over $280,000.00 for the cancer fund, and $ 14.700.00 has been raised for the local veterans.
